Simracing Rig Builder

How to Use the Simracing Rig Builder

Whether you're new to sim racing or looking to upgrade your rig, here's how to get the most out of the builder.

  1. Step 1: Where to start building your rig?

In theory, you can start with whatever equipment you want, but the best practice, in my opinion and that of many others, is to select your base, or wheelbase, in this case. The wheelbase is at the centre of the setup and is the interface between the game, you, and your PC or console. Currently, you will mainly find direct drive wheelbases in the selection. I know these are not the most budget-friendly options on the market, but the fact is that other entry-level bases cannot be bought separately, and it would have made no sense to include a bundle in the wheelbase catalogue. However, a bundle section will be introduced at some point.

  2. Step 2: Back to setup builder hub

Once you have selected your equipment, you will be taken back to the hub, where you can view your full build, along with the compatibility check and any adjustments that need to be made. You will also have different options available: Change an item of equipment by selecting the 'pencil' icon. Create a whole new build by clicking on 'New'; this will clear your current rig setup.

  3. Step 3: Use filters and Compatibility mode

Use the filters to show exactly what you need. The filters change based on the type of hardware you are looking at, and every piece of equipment has its own specifications. A detailed guide for every sim racing setup part will be available in the future to help you navigate. The most important filters to focus on if you want to see all the options that work for you are primarily 'Platform' and 'Price'. Once you have selected some equipment, the 'compatibility mode' feature will show you which parts are compatible with each other, so you won't waste time mixing parts that won't work together. The colour code is very simple: green means that the equipment is natively compatible. Orange means the setup will work, but it requires one or two adapters. Red: The setup is not compatible. Together with your filters, you will have the best possible overview of what works for you.

  4. Step 4: Save your rig setup for later

Once you have finished building, you can save your work by selecting the 'Share' option at the bottom. This feature will generate a unique URL for your build. Simply access this URL to view your build.

  5. Step 5: Share your build

Next to the 'copy/paste' option, you will see the 'share to Reddit' button. This will automatically take you to the official r/MySimConfig page. If you have a Reddit account, you can post your link and show people your sim racing setup. This is a good way to receive feedback on your build and discuss it with other members of the community.

Beta Stage

As you can see from the header, the project is still in the 'beta' phase, which means that mistakes can occur. I spend a lot of time checking, double-checking and triple-checking all the setup possibilities, but, as you can understand, I am not a machine. If you notice any issues with compatibility mode, please reach out to me either via Reddit or by email. I value constructive feedback and am committed to making this a reliable tool, which I believe it already is compared to other available apps.

You might feel that the catalogue is quite limited at the moment. I would agree, but rest assured that other brands and products will be added on a weekly basis. I prioritise quality over quantity and I don't want to add brands where I am unsure how the ecosystem works, which is why it takes time. Other types of equipment will also be added, such as shifters, button boxes and handbrakes.
